PREVENT ALOPECIA BY COOLING THE SCALP

Chemotherapy with no visible side effects

The positive effects of cold treatment (Scalp cooling) in chemotherapy is based on a simple principle:

Cooling the scalp reduces blood flow to the scalp.

The less the scalp is supplied with blood, the less chemotherapy drugs (cytostatics) reach the hair roots, the active substances of chemotherapy only reach them to a limited extent and are less likely to damage them.

The resulting hair is correspondingly less stressed. Cooling also reduces the metabolism of the hair root cells, which in turn lowers the absorption of cytostatics.

How well cooling protects against hair loss (alopecia) also depends on the type of active ingredient administered.

The use of the cooling hoods is suitable for malignant, solid tumors - the "classic" cancer - such as breast cancer, colon cancer or lung cancer.

Below is a list of the most common solid tumors:

Oral cavity and pharynx - esophagus - stomach - intestine - liver - gallbladder and biliary tract - pancreas - larynx - lungs - malignant melanoma of the skin - mesothelioma - mammary gland - vulva - cervix - ovaries - prostate - testicles - kidney - central nervous system - thyroid

In the case of malignant diseases of the blood, bone marrow and lymphatic system, the haematological cancers, scalp cooling is not suitable, since the tumor cells, which circulate frequently in the blood, could survive in the cooled scalp area due to the reduced effect of the chemotherapeutic agents.
